Artist : Jang Soo Ji

Jang Soo Ji, an artist, delves into the intricacies of time and adulthood through her self-portraits, crafting a poignant representation of innocence and dreams. With a mission to provide solace to those wrestling with anxiety and loneliness, Soo Ji projects the purity of childhood onto her depictions of a girl. Influenced by nostalgic memories of "Anne of Green Gables," she incorporates freckles to infuse her art with a charming touch. Embracing idealistic visions, Soo Ji introduces surreal elements like lotus flowers, aiming to evoke feelings of stability and comfort.

Expressive eyes take center stage in Soo Ji's creative process, as she believes they effectively convey profound emotions. Even in seemingly blank expressions, the girl in her artwork communicates emotions such as anxiety and loneliness, fostering a sense of comfort through shared experiences. While some drawings may involve real people as models, Soo Ji frequently combines features or relies on her imagination, placing a strong emphasis on the intense gaze as a means of expressing emotion.

Soo Ji's artistic palette is characterized by soft yet vibrant colors, with a preference for warm hues and low saturation. This choice complements the overall comforting and nostalgic tone present in her work, further enhancing the emotional impact of her exploration into the complexities of growing up and the passage of time.
